PRACTICAL GUIDE
Configure goals for purchases, leads and bookings
Choose a success signal and verify it with historical previews and live tests.
Choose an outcome
Open Websites → Goals & conversions. Choose a purchase, lead, booking, donation, signup or engagement template. Give the goal a recognizable name. Templates are starting points: replace example paths with your own.
Choose the success signal
Use Page visited for a confirmation path such as /thank-you, or Tracked event for an exact event name emitted by your integration. A checkout visit shows intent; it does not prove payment. Browser purchase events are also distinct from server-confirmed revenue.
Exact path matching preserves trailing slashes. Starts with matches a literal prefix. Query parameters and fragments are ignored. For events, use the captured event-name suggestions when available.
Add earlier steps if useful
Expand Earlier steps to describe the journey before success. Enter one path per line, or use event: add_to_cart for an event and prefix: /products/ for a path prefix. Saving these steps creates a funnel in Insights.
Preview, test, then save
- Preview last 30 days evaluates the current form rules against retained activity without saving the goal.
- Test this goal starts a new observation window. Open your website, perform the action, wait for upload and tap Check again.
- Your test browser must grant consent and its IP must not be excluded. Other visitors can also match during this window.
- Save goal when the results match your expectations.
Zero matches can mean no eligible activity or an incorrect rule. Check the exact path or event name before changing the goal. See conversion insights for interpreting the results.
